Richard J. Mouw

Richard J. Mouw

Dr. Richard Mouw — Fuller Seminary president, champion of Kuyperian thought, and author of a number of Eerdmans books dealing with Christianity and culture — will be at the Eerdmans Bookstore this Saturday, October 15, 3:00–4:30 p.m., to take part in the Eerdmans 100th Anniversary Author Series.

Mouw’s book talk will focus on his forthcoming The Challenges of Cultural Discipleship: Essays in the Line of Abraham Kuyper (due out in November) and may also touch on his closely related, recently released book Abraham Kuyper: A Short and Personal Introduction.

Mouw has been much in the news this week for his timely and widely talked about CNN Belief Blog article “My Take: This Evangelical Says Mormonism Isn’t a Cult” (October 9). In it, he questions the public fuss being made over Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith and defends The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from the charge of cultism that has frequently been leveled at it by many in the Christian community.

(As an interesting side note: Mouw’s CNN article references an ongoing, behind-closed-doors theological discourse between Evangelical and Mormon scholars co-chaired by Mouw and by LDS theologian Robert Millet, author of A Different Jesus? The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (also from Eerdmans), for which Mouw contributed both a foreword and an afterword.)

In addition to his book talk, Mouw will also field audience questions during the Q&A session following, and he will be on hand afterward to sign books and greet audience members during an informal reception, at which light refreshments will be served. A broad assortment of Mouw’s books will also be available for purchase.

As with all Eerdmans Bookstore events, the Richard Mouw book talk will be open to the public and free of charge, offering book-lovers a unique opportunity to hear and meet a prominent author in a warm and intimate setting.
