• We’re looking forward to visiting with Lamin Sanneh (Summoned from the Margin) next week, when he’ll be in Grand Rapids to deliver the 2012 Stob Lectures November 14-15 at Calvin Theological Seminary.

The Prophet Jesus and the Renewal of Israel

• Marcia Pally and her book The New Evangelicals were featured in Kristopher Rivera’s pre-election article “Shift in religious affiliation may sway votes in 2012 election,” which was picked up by a number of news sites around the web. Simon Smart also discussed The New Evangelicals in “Rants, reason and the religious right in US politics.”
• D. A. Carson spoke on The Intolerance of Tolerance at the University of California Berkeley last week. Solano Community Church, which organized the event, posted audio from the lecture on its website. Columnist Hannah Brady also published both a short video interview with Carson and a response to his book (“Tolerance: the new god“) on The Daily Californian.
• Edward J. Bloom engaged Peter Goodwin Heltzel’s new book Resurrection City: A Theology of Improvisation in his Books and Culture review “Decolonize Your Theology: Learning from the prophetic African American tradition.” Heltzel launched the book last weekend at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Washington D. C.
• Canon lawyer Edward Peters praised Ralph Martin’s “absolutely fascinating work” Will Many Be Saved? on his blog In the Light of the Law.
• J. A. Kaszuba Locke reviewed Ulrich Hub’s Meet at the Ark at Eight for BookLoons, calling it “a delicious, delirious, delightful story.”
• Anthony Le Donne is giving away two copies of Historical Jesus: What Can We Know and How Can We Know It? (and one  gently used VHS copy of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) on The Jesus Blog.
• Christian Book Academic blogger Matthew Miller shared a “Quick Glance” at John J. Collins and Daniel C. Harlow’s Early Judaism: A Comprehensive Overview
• The Australian radio show Open House Interviews with Leigh Hatcher posted audio of a recent interview with John Mulder, editor of Finding God: A Treasury of Conversion Stories.
