• We are pleased to welcome  Bob Gaudet as our new field sales manager responsible for library jobbers, libraries, professors, and key independent general trade stores.  Bob comes to us with a B.A. in Bible from Bob Jones University, an M.Div. from Central Baptist Theological Seminary, two years of pastoral ministry experience, and nine years of experience in sales. We’re very glad to have him!

• Southern California’s Catholic weekly The Tidings mentioned a number of 2011 Catholic Press Award-winning Eerdmans titles — including Luke Timothy Johnson’s Prophetic Jesus, Prophetic Church — in “Good Reading This Fall: Award Winning Books.”
• Alan Jacobs (Wayfaring; Looking Before and After) has begun blogging for The American Conservative. Read his introductory post here, or see the full archive of posts he’s contributed so far here.
• The radio show Things Not Seen discussed The Juvenilization of American Christianity with the author during its September 16 show Spiritual Maturity: An Interview with Thomas Bergler.
• Jeff Mirus of CatholicCulture.org reviewed Ralph Martin’s new book, concluding “If you can read only one book on this topic . . . read Ralph Martin’s Will Many Be Saved?“
• An interview with Dr. Carson about The Intolerance of Tolerance is planned for Monday, September 24 at 2:30-3:00 pm Central on the KFUO radio show Booktalk.
• Publishers Weekly included  John Swinton (Dementia, Disability in the Christian Tradition, and other titles) in the article “Religion Update Fall 2012: In Profile.” (Scroll down a little to read the profile of Swinton.)
• F. Lagard Smith reviewed D. A. Carson’s Christ and Culture Revisited for The Christian Chronicle, saying that the book “charts . . . a higher way.”
• Scot McKnight “grapple[d] with Eugene H. Peterson’s taxonomy of pastor from the opening chapters of his book The Contemplative Pastor“ on Jesus Creed.
• Kid Lit Reviews looked at Émile Jadoul’s All by Myself!, concluding that parents “will not mind reading this charmer night after night.”
• The C. S. Lewis Society of Madison’s upcoming conference “The Ten Books That Most Influenced C. S. Lewis” will include sessions devoted to two Eerdmans titles — George MacDonald’s Phantastes and Charles Williams’s Descent into Hell.
• Matthew R. Malcolm — an editor of the volume — announced the forthcoming publication of the Festschrift for Anthony Thiselton in his Cryptotheology post “Horizons in Hermeneutics available for pre-order.”
• Gordon Houser called Theodore Friend’s Woman, Man, and God in Modern Islam an “excellent source for getting to know modern Islam” in his Present Tense blog post “Prejudice and religious ignorance.”
• Jim West of Zwinglius Redivivus reminded us of the upcoming conference “Beyond Old and New Perspectives on Paul: A Critical Engagement with Douglas Campbell’s The Deliverance of God” which will be held November 9–10 at Duke Divinity School.
• Marcia Pally (The New Evangelicals) published a paper in Radical Orthodoxy: Theology, Philosophy, Politics entitled Theology and Practice of America’s New Evangelicals.
• Illustrator Lori McElrath-Eslick’s installation “You Read For Me a tribute to teachers ” — featuring original oil paintings from her picture books, including Does God Know How to Tie Shoes? — opened this week as part of the 2012 Grand Rapids ArtPrize competition.
• Larry Hurtado (The Earliest Christian Artifacts and other titles) shared a few insights on the “Jesus’ wife” controversy in the “‘The Gospel of Jesus’ Wife’ . . . Maybe . . . Maybe not.”
• Carolyn Custis James of the Whitby Forum posted a condensed version of an article on “Ideological Challenges for Bible Translators” by Roy Ciampa (coauthor of the Pillar Commentary volume on 1 Corinthians)  in  ”Identity Mapping?“
• Kevin DeYoung and Trevin Wax both reviewed Richard Mouw’s Talking with Mormons for The Gospel Coalition.
• Elizabeth Evans Hagan put in an enthusiastic plug for Ruth Everhart’s Chasing the Divine in the Holy Land in her Pastor on the Plaza post “Shameless Promotion for Friends.”
• On October 21 Pope Benedict XVI will canonize Kateri Tekakwitha, whose story is included in Ruth Sanderson’s picture book Saints.
